In short my story is this: in 2007 I experienced psychotic symptoms and in 2008 was diagnosed as having schizophrenia. After trying many natural treatments over a long period of time the voices stopped. In 2016 they returned in a very different way. I was fully existing outside reality and needed to go back onto some really heavy drugs. In January of 2017, once the drugs had my symptoms under enough control for me to accept the natural remedies once more, my symptoms reduced rapidly.
When I got out of hospital in January I went onto the following supplements and herbs- vitamin B, Rosehip Vital, Vitamin D, Liver support tablets, Omega 3 tablets and Vitamin E. At night I took Reishi mushrooms, kava and passionflower. I also went onto a prescribed homeopathic remedy. I took all these things because my mum knew what had worked for me in the past and she says that she was just “giving me the basics”. I felt like God organised for me to have all this because it all seemed to work so quickly and I started to feel so much better than I had felt for months.
When you start getting better it’s really hard to say what is working because lots of things happen at the same time. The point of this story is just to say what I did and what happened. If you are interested in knowing more about the supplements and herbs please contact me via my contact page.
Future posts in my blog are going to describe the full story of my experiences of mental illness, of getting better, getting worse and getting better again. Also the problem of weight gain that has come with the illness and the drugs. I have been in hospital 5 times. In my quest to get better I have tried art therapy, homeopathy, Chinese medicine, kinesiology, naturopathy, massage, aromatherapy, meditation, physical fitness regimes, saunas, herbs, supplements, juices and various dietary exclusions. I am kind of a full time guinea pig- so I hope some of my findings can help others.
Please note: I also have a severe reading and writing disability. Thank you to the people who have transcribed my thoughts and feelings into a format that you can read and understand.
